Justice For Good
ICE GTFO of Minnesota Now
Justice For Good; ICE GTFO of Minnesota Now
Say her name. We honor Renee’ Nicole Good. On January 7, 2026 her life was taken, needlessly, recklessly and tragically, by ICE agent Jonathan Ross. Renee’ Good’s sacrifice in protecting our immigrant sisters and brothers, won’t be forgotten, and has galvanized, not just the Resistance Movement, but the building of grassroots democracy in Minnesota and the U.S.
Protest is widespread in urban Minneapolis and more than 1000 demonstrations nationally. Hundreds of thousands are taking to the streets for racial justice, dignity and equality. Many remind us that: “no one is illegal on stolen land”. “DAKOTA MAKÓČE” = this is Dakota Land, Mni’Sota.
Scale of ICE operations in Minnesota:
Dept of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed more than 2,000 federal agents were sent to Minnesota, mostly the Twin Cities, reporting over 1,000 arrests statewide, 150 in Minneapolis alone so far (as of 1/7/26). MinnPost. On Sunday 1/11/26 an additional 1000 ICE agents were ordered into Minnesota. The Minnesota deployment is described by ICE as “the largest immigration operation ever.” PBS
This video brings out the truth
People can see with their own eyes, hear with their own ears. We thank those whom, like Darnella Frazier of George Floyd, took crucial video that day. https://youtube.com/shorts/4JQoFM0ce6s?si=CYHelGwUvkBekm1l
On the ground observations in the aftermath of an ICE agent murder of Renee‘ Good:
-34th and Portland is an integrated neighborhood in Minneapolis’ Powderhorn neighborhood. Just eight blocks south is where the murder of George Floyd took place. Part of downtown Minneapolis skyline is visible looking north down Portland Ave. Latino residents comprise 22% of the neighborhood. This explains why ICE agents set up a base of operation and were as usual patrolling their SUVs in the neighborhood.
Map below shows proximity between 34th & Portland and 38th & Chicago both labeled in red, walking distance of 0.5 miles. Lake street is just 4 blocks north.
Neighborhood Demographics (Approximate) of the Powderhorn and Central areas combined:
Latino 22%
Somali 21%
African American 19%
Native American 7%
White 29%

Countless neighbors witnessing ICE raids describe them as outright “kidnappings” as “illegal”, “without due process”, as “brutal” and “inhumane” “raids” of peoples’ homes, businesses, schools, clinics. And ICE “sadistic thugs” profiling brown and black people, the vast majority of whom are U.S. citizens, dragging or carrying by each limb “like animals”, to detain, warehouse and deport.
As a result, Minnesota’s attorney general has filed a lawsuit. The Minnesota case, filed by the state and the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, said that:
“thousands of armed and masked D.H.S. agents have stormed the Twin Cities to conduct militarized raids and carry out dangerous, illegal and unconstitutional stops and arrests.”
-A neighbor explains Neighborhood Organizing at 34th and Portland:
We spoke with a longtime friend who lives down the street as she hammered a “ICE Out” sign to the utility pole at 35th and Portland. She (and a Somali neighbor whom joined us) explained that neighbors are helping each other, using buddy systems, walking kids to school, getting groceries, monitoring ICE movements, blowing whistles honking car horns. During an Ice raid “forming a crowd and staying loud.” She said ICE agent SUVs had parked in a nearby church parking lot that morning as a base of operation. That neighbors are discussing putting up barricades on their blocks to keep ICE out after the murder of Renee’ Good. And that they did.
This neighborhood is one of many Minneapolis neighborhoods, coordinating and networking. Here is a public statement from one neighborhood:
“We’re a grassroots group of neighbors responding to the rise of authoritarianism and the impacts of fascism to our neighborhood.”
-the Minneapolis police were able to disperse ICE from the area. However, as MN state representative Aisha Gomez commented, we’re not seeing local police arresting ICE agents for their unlawful, unconstitutional reckless behavior.
-Flowers and a Memorial were set up at the site of the killing. Beside it an Impassioned outcry by a Latina woman explained how terrorized her people feel in Minneapolis.
-Video capturing a physician bystander asking ICE agent to check the pulse of gunshot victim completely turned away. ICE agent claimed they have their own medic crew, which is a lie.https://youtube.com/shorts/ZnihbiASy6s?si=fqEdVJsYZZbsHs0N
Two days later I spoke with another health care worker whom knows the physician and spoke with him. He related that he was devastated because shortly after, another ICE agent actually pulled a gun on him.
-Roosevelt HS:
Just hrs later ICE showed up at a high school at school dismissal time and took two teachers away. No respect for the pain this city and the family is experiencing. So galling that ICE would try to intervene at a high school on the very same day that a protester was tragically murdered by ICE. Minneapolis Public Schools and other school districts cancelled school for thursday and friday. Roosevelt and other high school students subsequently have held Walkouts in protest.
Not just a neighborhood-based Resistance Movement. Other sectors, organizations and public statements.
Much of the organizing is being led by several Latin organizations and one that is Somali-led. Also, the role of longstanding activist peace and justice groups, religious leaders, school districts, labor unions; particularly Minnesota Federation of Educators has their own strategy for dealing with ICE and protecting children in the Minneapolis schools. All are speaking out, issuing public statements, and holding public press conferences.
Just one day after the killing of Renee’ Good ICE agents detained five Native Americans at the Little Earth Native American housing complex, also in South Minneapolis.
On Sunday, January 10, the Dakota Native American community issued a “joint statement on community safety and human dignity” as follows:
“In light of recent federal immigration enforcement actions in the region that have resulted in loss of life and widespread concern, we join together to express our shared concern for the safety, dignity, and rights of our people. Recent ICE activity has caused fear and uncertainty among indigenous communities, particularly among our tribal members, living, Working, and raising families throughout Minnesota and across our ancestral homelands. We condemn the use of lethal force and enforcement practices that endanger life and spread fear throughout our communities. We call for accountability, restraint, and respect for human life.”
The People’s Action Coalition Against Trump is uniting grassroots organizations and has 18 groups in their coalition;
DEMANDS:
1. ice and feds out of the Twin Cities, metro and suburbs.
2. meet MIRAC’s demands in all city, county and state institutions and response to ice kidnapping: no collusion; no crowd control; no coverups; real consequences.
3.MN state and municipal governments must prohibit use of any publicly owned property at the state, county, and city level for federal immigration, agents, and enforcement operations.
Lastly, whether you’ve never been to a protest or are experienced, everyone is encouraged to participate in whatever way you are able and respecting a diversity of tactics.
