“This is What Democracy & Community Look Like”

Greetings from George Floyd Square Minneapolis & The Brass Solidarity Band

It’s all here at George Floyd Square!!! To the tune of “We are Family” (you recall 1979 hit by Sister Sledge!). Last Monday, & EVERY Mon since the worldwide Uprising began in May 2020. We’re celebrating power in diversity & cultural resistance: Black, White, Latin, youth, elders, tubas, trombones, piccolos. The super-spirited music & dance for many, myself included, gives feeling of “we can change the world”, so let’s extrapolate this that far & wide.

Si Se Puede (yes we can); “cielo sin limites” (the sky is the limit). And don’t let them kid us; We will not succumb to Fascist fear, manipulation, nor allow them to take away our joy as the Fascists constantly test us to see how much power & our resources they can steal. Indeed, we answer with the joy of Resistance as “we are everywhere”. We know it & they know it too; I find this constantly reading our many LOCAL newspapers. The truth is, deep down the fascists actually fear us.

So lets build on the historic, “No Kings” & No Fascists demo June 14, 2025 in cities & towns all across the USA, to the tune of 5 million people in the streets (altho one March organizer, “50501” estimates 13 million). And b4 that the also historic “Hands Off” protests of April 25, 2025. These exceeded the historic women’s march of 2017 in D.C, crowd est. up to 1 million, which arguably, along with Black Lives Matter catapulted our Resistance & Reclaiming, especially of stolen Native American land & resources we inhabit to this day. Some call this movement “Healing Justice.”

As we know, Fascists invariably take power on the heels of highly unstable, typically capitalist, economic systems, as they prey upon the unemployed and underemployed and their families who’s misery and uncertainty make us susceptible to such manipulation. Nazi Germany a case in point with many countries today, including the U.S. experiencing this.

In sum, fascists are able to woo and deceive the Working class. However, through our resistance; creativity; including creating further neighborhood grassroots space for conversation; direct actions such as large-scale economic boycotts; and utilizing open source technology in the public domain to DECENTRALIZE corporate power we can reunite the working class and reclaim democracy.

It is also OK for all of us to give ourselves permission to communicate our dreams, goals and visions for the kind of world we would like to be, one example TRANSFORMING proposed slashing of $800 million in Medicaid funding into further resolve for Medicare For All health care as a human right, and similarly for all other RIGHTS-based struggles as described below.

I will conclude with a quote from the publication, “40 ways to fight fascists, street legal tactics for Community Activists”, 2020, which states:

“Countering fascism is a necessary, but not sufficient part of a larger fight against inequality. Our work is part of a larger struggle- not just against white supremacy, but against all forms of oppression. In addition to structural racism in policing, work, and housing, this includes: attacks on immigrants and refugees; Islamophobia and antisemitism; homophobia and transphobia; and misogyny. Let’s collaborate with activists fighting these forms of oppression whenever possible.”

Have a great Holiday weekend and as you see the fireworks splendor, pls envision the next chapter of the American Peoples’ Revolution nearly 250 years henceforth!
